Indira Gandhi National Open University has opened a Special Study Centre in the institute to provide facilities for Certificate in Computing (CIC), BCA (Bachelor in Computer Applications) courses. This benefit is availed by those who cannot join an institution as regular students. The enrolled students are given coaching by the institute as per IGNOU syllabi by its own teachers. The course fee, charged by IGNOU, is very nominal and is quite affordable. A large number of students from Rayagada districts have enrolled for these courses.
Infrastructure
The
institute has constructed its own campus on its own land measuring over 20 Acres
within Rayagada Municipal
area. The campus is located on a vast expanse of open land with a range of
mountains on its background. It is completely pollution free. A
multi-storey Academic Block with more than 20 class rooms, three large sized
computer labs with internet facility, conference hall etc, a two-storey Block
containing Physics Lab, Chemistry Lab, Mechanical Workshop, Engineering Drawing
hall, Electronics Labs, Administrative Block, Library Block have already been
constructed with a total plinth area of 90,000 sft. A huge workshop building is
also under construction and will
be ready within the academic session 2003-04. A VSAT has been installed atop the
college building to provide quick and uninterrupted internet facility to the
staff and the students of the College. The college library has about
10,000 volumes of books with multiple copies of textbooks. Each student is
given four books at a time. The Library remains open from 8:00 AM to
8:00 PM and students are provided transport facility after the library
hours to go back to their places of residence. There are two
girls hostels and four boys hostels at present in the town. Some more
hostels will be opened during the academic session 2003-04. The College
has a fleet of four buses of its own to ferry the students from the town to the
college and back. The college does not charge any transport fees from the
students for their travel. The college has its own deep tube wells as a
result of which the entire water requirement of the college is drawn from the
said tube well.
Gardens have been laid out within the campus and within a couple of years the entire campus will be covered with green lawns and plants.
R&D Activities
As the college is four year old it is too early to undertake research activities. However, it is in touch with the local government departments and some nearby industries to obtain projects. The college has sufficient qualified teaching staff including software and hardware engineers to undertake any such project. The college is also capable of preparing appropriate software for the task. With this in view the college has opened a Software Development Centre with requisite qualified staff.
The college has been set up with the main object of spreading consciousness of Information Technology and related course in this under developed region. With that end in view only IT related courses have been opened in the college. The establishment of this college has provided enough encouragement to the local populace to prepare quite early in their career for admission to these professional and highly technical courses. Year after year the number of students from the locality has gone up quite considerably. The college has also been generating enthusiasm for higher studies / debates / seminars in the various branches of study by hosting State level and National level conferences, quiz competitions, mathematics Olympiad etc. The college hosted a national conference on the “Role of Mathematics in Engineering & Technology” on 22-23, February 2003. The conference was attended by two Vice-Chancellors, one former Vice-Chancellor, Director of NCAOR, Goa and eminent educationist from all parts of the country. It was a great success.
The college is also arranging similar conferences during the academic session 2003 –04.
